Dr. Guangbo Hao earned his Bachelor Degree of Engineering (with overall top 1 ranking among 500 students), Master Degree of Engineering (recommended for immediate admission), and Doctor Degree of Engineering (successive master-doctor program, first PhD) all from Northeastern University (NEU, 985 University), China, in July 2004, March 2007 and July 2008, respectively. In September 2011, he was awarded his second PhD: Degree of Doctor of Philosophy after a subsequent three-year fully-funded studying in Mechanical Engineering at Heriot-Watt University (HWU), UK. With his recognized record of accomplishments, he was directly selected to join the School of Engineering-Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University College Cork (UCC) in November 2011, to take a permanent full-time faculty position: Lecturer in Mechanical. He was firstly tenured at the end of 2014, and was then promoted across the merit bar in October 2017 in an accelerated way due to his performance commended by the Lecturer Promotion & Establishment Board. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer at UCC in July 2018. He also completed a PG certificate in Teaching and Learning in High Education at UCC in 2016. He founded and is leading the CoMAR research group at UCC. His current research interests focus on design of compliant mechanisms and robotics and their applications in precision engineering, energy harvesting and biomedical devices. His research works were indicated by 2 filed patents (1 EU and 1 UK), 110+ peer-reviewed publications (50+ SCI-indexed journal papers and 4 book chapters ) and 10+ invited talks (2 keynote/plenary).  He has supervised 1 PhD student for completion as the main supervisor, is supervising 5 PhD students (3 as the main supervisor and 2 as the co-supervisor).

Dr. Hao is an Academic Associate in Tyndall National Institute, a Visiting Lecturer in University College Dublin, an Overseas Renowned Scholar in Shenyang Institute of Automation (SIA), China, and a Visiting Professor in Xiamen University of Technology. He serves as the Vice President of Association of China-Ireland Academics (ACIA). He is a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), and a member of the ASME Mechanisms and Robotics Committee, and a committee member of the Irish Manufacturing Council (IMC). He was a committee member of Section Operation Executive Board of ASME UK & Ireland Section. He has acted an external reviewer for several grant proposals such as Dutch Technology Foundation STM (2016), Irish Research Council Ulysses (2017), and Dutch Research Council NWO-domain TTW (2018).
